Description

Project Overview

    Reverse osmosis (RO) is a widely adopted membrane separation technology for wastewater treatment and water purification. While highly effective, the process produces a high-salinity concentrate, commonly known as RO brine or RO concentrate, which presents significant environmental and disposal challenges due to its complex composition and high salt content. To address this, thermal evaporation systems are often employed as a post treatment step, to recover the water from the brine and minimize the brine volume.

    In this project, a triple-effect forced circulation evaporator is utilized to achieve energy-saving and reliable reduction of RO concentrate, supporting zero liquid discharge (ZLD) goals. This system is specifically designed for high-salinity and high-viscosity wastewater streams. The triple-effect configuration significantly enhances energy efficiency by reusing the secondary steam generated in each effect to provide thermal energy for evaporation in the next effect, thereby reducing the overall steam consumption. The forced circulation design ensures stable flow, minimizes scaling on heat transfer surfaces of heat exchange tubes, and maintains high heat exchange efficiency, making it suitable for continuous and long-term operation in harsh industrial environments.

Working Principle

    The Triple-Effect Forced Circulation Evaporator operates based on the principle of multi-effect evaporation, where the secondary steam generated from one effect is used as the heating medium for the next effect. This cascade utilization of thermal energy reduces overall steam consumption significantly compared to a single-effect evaporator.

    The forced circulation is driven by a high-flow, low-head axial flow pump, which: maintains strong material flow through the system; delays salt precipitation and scaling; ensures efficient heat transfer within the heat exchangers.
Equipment Description

One set of triple-effect forced circulation evaporator is able to meet the following demands:

1). The RO concentrate typically contains around 10% salt and is concentrated to a supersaturated level of approximately 55%;

2). All components in the equipment are well designed to ensure safety in production;

3). The forced circulation pump equipped can effectively prevent blocking risk of heat exchange tubes caused by high concentration of solid salts, and can slow the formation of scaling on the heat exchange surface at the mean time, improve the heat transfer efficiency, increase the continuous operation time of equipment, and reduce the cleaning frequency;

4). And an integrated PLC control system ensures the continuous and automatic operation of equipment.

Applications

    In addition to treating RO concentrate, the triple-effect forced circulation evaporator is widely used across various industries:

    • High-salinity industrial wastewater, such as from the textile, electroplating, or chemical industries;
    • Power plant desulfurization wastewater;
    • Lithium battery manufacturing;
    •Pharmaceutical and food industry wastewater, where high recovery and concentration are required;
    • Environmental protection and recycling industries
    •ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge) systems, where minimal liquid discharge is critical.
