Five-effect Evaporator

The five-effect evaporator, is a system designed to optimize the use of energy of the secondary steam in the evaporation process. By leveraging the steam generated from one effect as the heating source for the next, it significantly reduces the amount of external live steam required for the evaporation process.

Description

Evaporation is a thermal process often employed in industries to remove solvent, typically water, from a solution or slurry to concentrate the solute. Multiple-effect evaporators utilize the secondary steam generated by the evaporation in the previous effect as the heat source for the next effect to achieve the purpose of saving energy.

And the five-effect evaporator, is a system designed to optimize the use of energy of the secondary steam in the evaporation process. By leveraging the steam generated from one effect as the heating source for the next, it significantly reduces the amount of external live steam required for the evaporation process.

Principle of Five-Effect Evaporator

The process begins with the feed entering the first effect, where it is heated by external steam. The vapor generated from this heating then moves to the second effect, which operates at a lower pressure, and thus at a lower boiling point, than the first. This sequence continues through to the fifth effect which is the final effect, each step requiring less energy than the one before, thanks to the cascading use of vapor heat. The result is a highly efficient system that uses a fraction of the steam that would be needed in a single-effect operation.

Structure of Five-Effect Evaporator

The five-effect evaporator consists of four evaporator stages or “effects”, a condenser, a vacuum system and auxiliary equipments. The five-effect evaporators operate in a series to form the five-effect system, with each stage designed to progressively utilize the residual energy from the preceding one. The entire evaporation system adopts a continuous input and output production method, achieving continuous operation.

And combined with separators and crystallizers of different structures, it can achieve concentration and crystallization processes for various materials, from food and beverages to chemicals and pharmaceuticals, meeting multiple processing requirements.

Application of Five-Effect Evaporator

The efficiency and scalability of five-effect evaporators make them suitable for a wide range of applications, including:

Desalination: Removing salt from seawater to produce potable water.

Food and Beverage Industry: Concentration of juices, dairy products (like milk), and extracts.

Chemical Industry: Concentration of chemicals, solvents, and industrial wastewater treatment.

Pharmaceutical Industry: Concentration of medicinal solutions.

Environmental protection:  treatment of industrial wastewater in industries like chemical, pharmaceutical, metallurgy, mining, petrochemical, rare earths, lithium batteries, and hazardous waste.

Through the tailored design of the process, the five-effect evaporators are able to achieve a variety of applications.

Energy Consumption of Five-Effect Evaporator

Generally, the five-effect evaporator consumes 0.25~0.30 tons of steam per ton of water evaporated, while it is 1.1~1.2ton of steam per ton of water evaporated in a single-effect evaporator.

Design Consideration of Five-Effect Evaporator

When designing a five-effect evaporator system, our engineers consider several critical factors to optimize its operation. These include the specific needs for heat recovery, the potential for automatic online cleaning to ensure long-term efficacy, and the choice among various process configurations such as forced or natural circulation and falling or rising film evaporation. The selection is tailored to meet the unique requirements of each application, ensuring the system’s maximum efficiency and reliability.
